The purpose of Story Hour is to encourage
in children the love of language and literature in all forms. Our children
listen to, observe and imitate the books and activities we share, building
reading readiness as they grow.
During our story hours on 09 September 2015,
we typically read two to three Hindi stories.
The goal of this program is to help children develop strong early
literacy skills, while also having fun with stories.
Current research on early literacy and
brain development shows that it is never too early to prepare children for
success as readers. Studies show that early language learning is the biggest
predictor of school success.
Story Hours at KV OCF Library highlight
the 6 Early Literacy Skills children need in order to be successful learners.
These are: Vocabulary, Print Motivation, Print Awareness, Narrative Skills,
Letter Knowledge, and Phonological Awareness.
Thank you and don’t forget to find
something wonderful to take home!
